Retin-a (tretinoin) can be prescribed for patients that have acne and failed in treating it with other methods. Some of the side effects you may have when using Retin-a include stinging and feeling of warmth. Watch very carefully for severe skin reactions and report them as soon as possible to your health care provider: blistering, irritation, redness and peeling. If you have any chronic skin conditions you need to be very careful when using such products as Retin-a. Retin-a rarely causes side effects, but some people have very sensitive skin and as a result the following side effects may occur: increase in acne sores, scaling skin, warmth, swelling or blistering, stinging, lightening or darkening of the skin, crusting of the skin, or red skin. If you experience these symptoms and they do not go away as you continue taking Retina-a, talk to your doctor to see if anything can be done.
